Gasper Dreams
Tall atop the sandstone bluffs
at Sally’s Rock red cedars tower
over a neatly chinked cabin.
Darkening crowns sway gently;
their susurrations suggesting
sleep in the fading twilight,
are sharpened only by the melancholic
call of the whipporwill as
it nestles in for the night.
And another day awaits
the young boy as he slumbers
upon his cot under the cabin window;
sacred light from waxing moon
for reassurance of the greater light to come.
Dreams overtake him and
the grandfather cedars stand
sentinel to the promise.
